creative balance

January is my least favorite month, but I collect my thoughts, inspirations and set some intentions for the year ahead. I’m not a goal maker as such, just a metalsmith looking to stay focused and live a life of creative balance. Here in Maine we still have snow on the ground, but with each day it’s more hopeful that the longer days and warmer weather is closer. With the hope of spring I find my spirit finally lifting. It inspires me in ways I have come to realize is just a part of the rhythm of my life.

By February this year I found my creative intention needed some expansion. I opened my field of vision to explore new possibilities. How could I follow my inspiration and incorporate new materials I have had a lifelong love for,  while staying true to my style? Stones were my answer again and again. These are not collected by me from the beaches in Maine, but come from the earth just the same. Mined and cut, shaped and polished to highlight the best details of each treasure, my purchases have been carefully made.

Fossilized corals, agates with shell fossils, gemstones translucent and dreamy with intense color….every color you can think of and then add some of them together and it’s what you get. It’s limitless what you can find and how you can use them. I’m stoked, inspired and can’t wait for the pieces that are going to come about with this new-found creative exploration.

For now I have a limited stash of stones and there are so many I’m excited to work with! I’m anxious to see how I can meld them with my signature style, never loosing sight of how I use my metalsmith techniques. I will follow my soul and make rugged jewelry that makes a statement of simple style.

Still elemental…still rugged, authentically me with patterns in the silver and some even adorned with a bit of gold. Each piece with its own energy that compliments the stones, together they are balanced, grounded and authentic. Not much different from how I make my beach stone work, still capturing that organic style to wear everywhere.

So here I go…off on an adventure to achieve the best creative balance I can. Come along for the ride and see what makes your heart sing and puts a flutter in your stomach. That feeling when you get when you know it’s a piece you are connected to, an energy that’s palpable. Check it out!

Thanks for taking the time to read and be a part of the new release!                                    Anita

Celebrate Summer!

IMG_4546As August comes to a close I am reminded of so many amazing people that have touched my life through my show travels over the years, last weekend was no exception. The American Folk Festival has been a great event for me the past 3 years. I’m able to connect with my friends and clients located down east as well as meet folks that are from many other places, even outside of Maine!

Sister of the Stone

I am forever grateful for the love and support that is shown for me, my work, as well as the connections I have with these lovely folks. It fills my heart and makes me smile knowing that these are my people, they get me….they get my work and their smiles are a reflection of how what I create brings them joy. What goes around truly does go around!

Over the weekend I had an amazing opportunity to have breakfast on Sunday with women who was ageless and full of life in her 80’s. She had ordered earrings from me several weeks before the show, unable to make the long walk through the festival we connected in person and enjoyed some coffee and Maine blueberry muffins(Jordan Marsh recipe to be exact!). Bette and her daughter Cam were a true joy to get to know.  We shared conversation about my love of creating my work, their family history and Bette’s love of big earrings, short hair and good food. We had much in common needless to say!

I am forever grateful to my roady, jewelry bitch and strong partner Pam who does all that she can to make this kind of travel and camping experiences little bit of fun and work too! Our trusty “Rivet” the Bambi Airstream means we can travel with our dogs, have our little home on wheels and enjoy the comforts of home in a 16ft camper. How lucky are we????IMG_4519

As the calendar turns to September I’ll be traveling back to Pennsylvania on the10th to be a part of the Clover Market in Chestnut Hill. Staying with Mom in PA, I get to connect with my family in PA and friends in NJ that live nearby!! These markets are full of beautifully hand crafted items and antique finds that are thoughtfully displayed and carefully curated. One day show that’s worth the trip if your in the area!

Then as the end of September and my birthday approaches I will be at the best fair ever!! Please look for me at the Common Ground Fair  September 22-24, I’ll be in my spot across from Liberty Graphics in the large craft tent, booth #45. This quite frankly is the event  I wait all year for and having it so close to my Birthday is a great reason to celebrate our awesome way of life in Maine! Hope that your summer has been grand and enjoy the last days of soft light and cool nights.                                                                                                       Warmly, Anita

Life is about the moments.

Starting to write informative, interesting and important content for a blog isn’t easy….well not for me. Whether that’s why I don’t write often or not remains to be seen. You see I’m a over thinker, bing worker, wordy at times and queen of procrastination. Honestly I’m more than that, but I’ll leave that for another time.

Let me catch you up on where my life is now….on this day of this beautiful Maine summer, as I sit on my back deck in shorts and a tank top letting the warmth of the morning wash over my exposed skin. I’m listening to my Guinea Hens and Chickens enjoy their supervised back yard time (keeping a close eye for the Fox who has decided that all make nice meals) and watching our dogs Pedey & Lu guard the deck from Chipmunks. Pam is sitting next to me organizing requests for her Garlic orders from our Forever Garlic Farm, a labor of both love and passion for the almighty 1200 heads of Organic(no not MOFGA certified, but her version) that she so lovingly grew this year. Life is good….well quite frankly it’s “The way life should be” as those who live here in Maine like to say.

Grand Lake Stream 2017

Greatest T ever by Ashley Webber Designs!

As for my creative life this summer has been busy filled with great shows and events that I have enjoyed not only for the camaraderie of my fellow artisans and makers, but for the connections I have made with amazing new folks that are my peeps. Yes my lovely and cherished collectors have graced me with adding to their collections of jewelry as well. I am forever grateful for every single personal connection I have made with so many men & women who understand my style. They crave it’s simplicity, rugged style and textural identity in a way that I do. These are my tribe and the reason I do what I do….I live a grateful life.

As the summer ticks away I have been taking time to fill my creative well whenever I can. I have chosen me, the me that needs to be out in my kayak, the me that needs to spend mornings at the edge of the bay on Montsweag and feel the warmth of the sun and store every moment for the long winter months ahead. I have attempted to balance my work (binge or not) with moments of time spent watering our gardens, on the water fishing ( caught 5 striper yesterday, a record for me) in my kayak with Pam who continues to show her strength in year 8 of her Lyme treatment and is my true hero for her tenacity and attitude toward healing. Any moment I can I visit our Little Lockwood Grands, I still can’t believe how quickly time passes! Holden is 5, Finn(the Fighter) is 3 and Florence is 9 months, these 3 are pure joy and are living life with parents that are showing them what being responsible, nature loving active humans should be. I am forever grateful for their free range life that allows them to experience love, life and exploration the way all children should be.

It has become abundantly clear that my mantra has become “life is about moments”. Whether captured in an image or not the experiences that fills the well and makes your heart soar for even a fleeting moment. I am learning to step back and chose me with no regrets and an open heart. It leads to a path of clarity, joy and creativity that can only make for a fuller life….it’s only taken me 57 years to figure it out, but then again numbers don’t determine age right?

Details: Upcoming show listings are on my website. My home studio is open by appointment when I’m not at shows. Garlic from the farm will be ready in about a week for sale and the stripers should still be around until the beginning of September so I’ll be in the water when I can. Make the most of the rest of your summer folks…’s all about the moments! peace out Anita

Let’s Celebrate!

Let’s Celebrate Finn’s 2nd Birthday!

Today is an amazing day! It’s Finn Lockwood’s 2nd Birthday and a milestone for  this little CHD toddler. No longer a baby, Finn has moved into the his toddler years with joyful exuberance and sustained heart health. There could be nothing better than to celebrate the day with organic Carrot Cake cupcakes made by his Grammy Pammy, party hats for us all, gifts and time spent together with Finn, his older brother Holden, and his Mom & Dad.

Perfect day all around……oh and then there’s the little donation we mailed today to the Children’s Heart Foundation in Finn’s honor. Yes it was a big day for Finn and for CHD research, as well as my immense joy in being able to pay it forward. I held the checks, Finn held the Heart Strength Necklaces that I created to raise money and we laughed, we rejoiced and gave thanks for all of you that made this happen.

Well beyond my goal, well beyond my expectation, well beyond what I could have imagined could happen on social media….a total of $5,650 was raised from sales in my February fund raising campaign. Yep….we did that!

As Anita Roelz of Circle Stone Designs, I created a line of jewelry that will continue to give back. I have added Heart Strength Designs to my CSD website and I will make Heart Strong pieces all year long. I committ to give 30% of the gross proceeds of the sale of every Heart Strength creation to the Children’s Heart Foundation until January 31, 2017.

So the creating of heart jewelry  will continue, the money raised will still be donated for CHD research and Finn will continue to grow. I’ll keep you informed with has progress and this Finn the Fighter will march through his life and all of his family will be with him every step of the way. Thank you for your support and giving hearts. ❤
Grateful Heart Hugs to you all.  Anita

Heart Strength Designs….Gives Back

Heart Strong #5 One of a kind Heart Love Pendant

It has been a whirlwind Heart Health month of February full of sharing, creating, communicating and breathing in the amazing energy that has been flowing into this project of giving back. When I started with the idea on January 31st I had little time to translate my intentions on how to give back for the entire month of February. I found that it was my family, supporters, collectors, clients and the families of other CHD children & adults who showed me the way.

They connected…responded…inquired….ordered and shared stories of why they felt this fund raising effort was to close to their hearts. ❤ They purchased hearts in support of CDH and in memory of lost little ones and amazing stories of resilience  for those now in their 20’s , 30’s and older living active lives after early childhood surgeries for congenital heart defects. Some where Mothers, Fathers, other family members of CHD sufferers, as well as caretakers, (nurses both pediatric and cardiac) and then those who just wanted to help.

Finn’s 1yr Cardiac Appointment

Complete strangers connected with me because you cared and you shared, the Children’s Heart Foundation shared and the social media community fulfilled a greater purpose to spread the word. It was humbling, heartfelt and emotional every moment of the day. I created with all of these people in mind, with Finn in my heart and with the intent that I could make a difference for them and for their loved ones.

I watched the messages on FB, on my personal page, Circle Stone Designs page,  Instagram from across the pond in Great Britain even! Emails from those I know, love and cherish wanted to be part of my  #giveback campaign for CHD. It kept me smiling and every time I saw Finn, either by FaceTime(so grateful for that connection) or giving him a big Hunny hug in person I felt my emotion and love grow. I felt that the purpose of this month of February was my gift, a gift that I made happen. Not a sacrifice but a choice to love and share the love, to create and donate money for a cause that is close to the hearts of so many.

None of this was possible without the support and love of my family. The partner of mine who cheered me on everyday even through the struggle through her own Lyme illness, Pam she is, has and will always be my rock. Truly the person I draw on for strength and support, honesty and love, she made this possible. From the Little Lockwood family, Ashley, Casey, Holden & Finn who have shown the world that they are strong together and able to create a life that is full of  a sense of adventure and love of what the future has to offer them. To the extended family, Finn’s Great Grandmothers who gave their support and love as well as the Aunties who shared and now wear their hearts in support. The entire family all who shared and cared enough to spread the word helped me make all of this possible.

I have to share that my core of collectors/friends as well as Pam’s came out in amazing support, they donated and shared, they did so with great care and emotion. So many of my Sisters of the Stone wanted to be a part of the fundraiser, as always they connect with me on a level that makes my elemental work feel strong & important. They bought 1, even 2 pieces to show support and than shared with others so that the word would spread. My heart was feeling love with every communication only to be overwhelmed to see the hearts being worn and cherished with even more love.

The Little Lockwood Family

I would like to especially thank Casey & Ashley for allowing me to take on this project and their support of it. Having a child  like Finn, that had a bit of a rough start and living as healthy a life as a CHD toddler can have, is amazing. Being reminded every day for a month that there is so much to be grateful for and yet a bit of uncertainty in the life ahead is not easy on any level. The support and love has lifted them up for heart month and allowed them to see, yet again that their community is right there along with their family on this journey. Through adventures and challenges they will never walk alone on this path.

Shipments of Heart Strong Necklaces!!

So details are continuing to emerge as to the dollar totals that I was able to raise this past month. I have commitments for over $4,700 and to tell the truth if everything does come through I would imagine reaching a goal of $5,00o is not out the question. Yes…I never would have imagined an idea with 4 designs to start would be this amazing and raise this much money. Donating 100% of each of these hearts felt right and I felt that I was vested in the cause by being invested by my own donation of time and materials to CHD.

When I imagine the year ahead I feel that moving forward it is necessary for me to continue to give back to the Children’s Heart Foundation to fund CHD research. Yes this journey has proven that my heart is truly in it and that with the momentum created by each of you I intend to allow these Heart Strength Designs to give back all year long. I will market each Heart Strong piece through social media and my new Circle Stone Designs website (which is currently under construction and waiting for my attention) so that I can donate 30% of the proceeds from the sale of each creation.

Heart Strength Designs 2016

From March 1st to January 31, 2017 I pledge to donate my 30% each month to the same charity that I will send off your checks to later this month. I will enjoy the journey further by adding new pieces, designs and options for the hearts I have already released. Heart Strong necklaces #1,#2,#3, #4 will be available with different necklace options and lengths so you can customize your purchase and also still support the cause with my 30% commitment to CHF.

Finn’s Heart Stone Gift from Hunny 2014

It’s going to be an amazing year, so now it’s time for me to get all of the hearts that you have committed to donate for and I have committed to make finished. Work on the website updates and create new promotional materials for Heart Strength Designs. I’m going to continue my connection to my beach stones and metalsmithing designs, after all the tapping of the hammer and searching the beaches for treasures does fill my creative well. I am looking forward to my journey of love and hearts this year and to watching the Little Lockwood family explore their lives and adventures as well as the healing of my Pam, my rock who always helps me find my way when things get a little unfocused.

It is with immense gratitude that I thank you all for your love & support and I hope that you will continue to follow my journey of creativity and purpose for the years to come.

Finn the Fighter…the beat goes on.

Finn & Hunny December 2015

This is a Grandmother blogging today…Hunny is what the Grandboys call me. Sorry but you’re going to have to wade through the picture journey with a few words to get the end with the details of the last Heart Strength edition necklace. Thanks for reading on!

As I took the time to gather photos for this post I was reminded of the amazing journey of my Grandson Finn’s life: His beautiful entry into this world in March of 2014, then diagnosis of Ebstein’s Anomaly & SVT,  his first year of life with medications to keep his heart rate stable and this past year’s freedom of being medication free!

CICU Boston Children’s Hospital…. #sweetlittlefinn

Looking back the hashtag that Casey & Ashley first used on Instagram was #sweetlittlefinn and sweet he was, but once he returned from the hospital it became apparent that his body was fighting for a normal existence. The prominent hashtag became #finnthefighter, to show how strong and resilient he was. It gave his family strength too knowing that he had a spirit and support to get him up over his first bumps in life.

One Month Follow up at Boston Children’s….Rock Steady #finnthefighter

An important part of Finn’s first year was keeping him warm, comforted and stress free. Mama saw to that and enjoyed every moment of wrapping this little boy close to her, feeling every beat of his heart. Baby wearing became a joyful and necessary part of both of their lives and still is!

There were challenges during his first year, Finn’s medications that had to be administered 3 times a day like clockwork, caused him to lose his beautiful long head of dark hair. Nothing dampened his spirits as his hair grew back, but this time around it was blonde…taking after his Daddy this little fighter.

Every moment spent with Finn & Holden was filled with love, a love that grew and grew with each beat of our hearts.

The list of adventures were awesome! Harvest at Forever Garlic Farm & September at the Common Ground Fair…Maine was the perfect place for farm and family experience.

Normal activities for this little brother that is no different on the outside than his older bother Holden, is what has kept Finn strong, just like the hearts that I create with strength in his honor.

I am so grateful for each and every moment that I have been able to smile and laugh with these boys…truly every Grandmother’s dream!

Watching your Daughter blossom into the most amazing Mother is an emotion that can’t be put into words. Her care and efforts to make every day a beautiful, healthy and fun experience for her family are a testimony to her inner strength.

Thanks for taking the time to take a peak into Finn’s first 22 months of life. I am grateful for the love and support everyone has shown all of our family over this time. Now for the Heart of Strength!!

I’m calling this one Finn’s Heart…..Heart Strong #4 of my Heart Health Month donations is a very important design to me. As I come to the final push to raise money in February through donations from 100% of the profits going to the Children’s Heart Foundation, the first in this series will be a donation gifted to Ashley by her Grandmother, or GG as the Grandboys call her. This heart that is hand made to be perfectly imperfect, just like Finn’s beating heart will be a reminder of calm, strength and tenacity of spirit, with just a little fun added in. Slightly tilted the heart measures 1 1/4″ long and 1 1/8″ wide solid brass & a 1″ long soldered thick sterling silver bail, the pendant hangs from a 3mm stainless ball chain. Patterns on the brass are made from my hand with antique hammers & anvil and carry with them the energy of love and spirit of heart strength. Please connect with me via email at for interest in this pendant, the coast of this necklace is a $100 check to Children’s Heart Foundation and $10 shipping charges to me. Let’s continue to make this an amazing month of donations in Finn’s honor by my hand & heart for CHD research! ❤

Heart Strength Necklace #3

First…the details!!

The inqiuiries are rolling in and the curiosity about the next Heart Strong Necklace has lifted me up during this bone chilling time in Maine. It gives me warmth and excitement right down in my soul! So I present Heart Strong Necklace #3! This pendant is hand forged sterling silver, hanging on a 30″ stainless ball chain. Rugged and organic it’s a lovely and happy shaped heart. Each one of these shaped pendants in the numbered series of 10 is hand sawed from sterling silver, hand hammered with my cherished antique hammers to create the pattern work that makes for such an interesting and urban style. I oxidize each one and hand polish with steel wool for a great reveal of the texture. This one is actually the same weight as #1 just a different shape….oh the beauty of the maleability of silver is just so awesome! Heart Strong Necklace #3 is selling for $125, same as before 100% of proceed of the numbered edition of 10 will go directly to the Children’s Hear Foundation. Email me for details on how to get your special necklace!

Second…Heart Strength Necklaces delivered!

I am beyond grateful to have shared some time with amazing ladies, my Sisters of the Stone, who were the first to answer my call to action in raising money for the Children’s Heart Foundation. They have graced me with support and love of my work for over the 6 years I have been making jewelry and evolving as an artist. My first pendant made it to it’s home on Saturday and it was a great feeling. With heartfelt love it went to a woman who has known challenges in her life, yet is resilient and strong, much like the little heart patients I am raising money for. This woman is a sister that Pam and I hold very close to our hearts. The second a gift from a husband to a wife for Valentines, these lovely friends who share our love of children, grandchildren & dogs have been kind supporters and friends for years. The power of social media is the catalyst for connections in the most amazing of ways! Another husband who recognized the significance of these hearts and loves his wife with all of his heart gifted the Brass design #2 necklace! It made it to a special location…my hometown of Moorestown, NJ. Our amazingly lovely friends who we share our love of all things Maine have kindly supported and loved all that Pam and I are and do. I thank you all, you ladies are my rocks!!

Third….the sharing!

Thanks to all who have shared with others as the stories are pouring into my inbox & FB messages. I am hearing about their own journies and those of their loved ones, how someone dear to them has been effected by CHD and how they want to help. Never underestimate the power of that one share and showing you care, it spreads the word and allows the stories to be told. So please even if you don’t know someone directly effected by a Congenital Heart Defect there is someone out there that does!  1.3 million children are born with a CHD each year. To learn more about the Children’s Heart Foundation take a moment and read and share, it’s for the children. On Facebook Children’s Heart Foundation  like their page and share and spread the love!

Fourth…Valentines Day joy!

The glow of Valentine’s Day is still with me this morning, grateful for every moment of the day celebrating love.

It was a great visit with Finn and the Little Lockwoods yesterday. The climbing gym in Scarborough called Salt Pump has become a most amazing place for excercise, fun and learning so many lessons in self awareness for the wee ones,(for that matter the adults too) that it’s a regular routine during these bitter cold times in Maine. Watching the family work as a unit and enjoy being active is what I refer to as a “heart swell”, a time when my heart just feels as though it’s overflowing with love and admiration for their journy to keeping Finn strong and enjoying his normal toddler life with his brother Holden. Both boys are just like all of the kids at the gym, climbing their highest and challenging themselves to go beyond the comfortable limits. Life lessons for all!  It’s a bonus when Pam and I together can make the trip to spend time with the boys, it’s a win all around. Valentine’s day was perfect this year!

Fifth…..dollars, supply & demand!

My hands are willing to create these beautiful hearts, but my studio is a cold nightmare here in Maine so I’m doing my best to keep up with the demand. I will work this week on filling the orders for the hearts that I have committments for. To date I have received $1,000 in donations for necklaces!! YES!!!!!  Heart Strong Necklace #4 will be introduced next Monday, then it’s time to make sure you have gotten your choice to me and the checks for donations for delivery. I will be so excited to send out all of the checks made out directly to the Children’s Heart Foundation so they can know each and everyone of you has supported this cause in the name of Finn Sawyer Lockwood. You will be giving the gift of research dollars for the children who are faced with all of the different life threatening diseases of the heart. As always I am grateful for your support and love of this most worthy cause!

Heart Strength Energy

The power of leading with your Heart!

Heart Strong Pendant #2

Last Monday I took a step into uncharted territory and lead with my heart. The heart that has guided me through my entire life, the one that has connected me with my love of 20 years, the heart that has trusted in a lifestyle made from the art created by her and now by me. This heart that raised two amazing children and now is Hunny (Grandmother) to two amazing boys know as the Little Lockwood Brothers.

I had an amazing and supportive response to my news of donating 100% of the proceeds of the sale of my first Heart Strong pendant to the Children’s Heart Foundation. My heart was full of love and gratitude and continues to be as the inquires and questions pour into my FB feed and email!  Thanks to all those who shared and showed the love I reached over 3,499 people on my Circle Stone Designs FB page post!! That’s results from the heart!!

So I guess it’s time to clean up the details and make my heart a bit stronger. I am so grateful in knowing that my intention was received and appreciated in the most amazing way!

Finn’s Truth:

First and foremost I am doing this fund raising to donate to research for children’s Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), in honor of my Grandson Finn. He is approaching his 2nd birthday in March and is a strong and vibrant toddler! He was born with Ebstein’s Anomaly and will be facing a heart valve repair at some point in his life. Truth….the longer he can go without surgery the stronger he will become. So it’s a waiting game for him and the family. For now, he is perfect in every way!! Testing his boundaries and keeping up with his older brother Holden. IMG_3821

Details of the Heart Strong Pendants:

I had intended to only release a 1 unique pendant each Monday in order to raise 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Children’s Heart Foundation, but the inquiries and responses were such that NO was not in my heart!! So moving forward with great excitement here are the details.

  1. Each of 4 new designs released in February will have a numbered edition of 10 that will have 100% of the proceeds paid with a check to the Children’s Heart Foundation. Making your purchase 100% tax deductible.
  2. Checks for each necklace will be made out the Children’s Heart Foundation directly. I will collect them and send you the necklace that you have committed to purchase. Shipping charges of $10.00 if necessary will be paid to Circle Stone Designs in the form of an additional check.
  3. Once you notify me of your commitment and choice your hand crafted pendant will be shipped to you after I receive your checks.
  4. The first week in March I will send all of the donation checks along to CHF in honor of Finn Sawyer Lockwood’s name.
  5. Each pendant is hand made by me in my studio, so there might be slight variations due to my hand forging techniques. I attempt to make them as similar as possible without compromising my process. Satisfaction is guaranteed!
  6. I will only be offering one necklace option unique for each pendant design. If you prefer a different length then offered I am happy to make a substitution.

Heart Strong Pendant #2 Brass

With great excitement I present to you Heart Strong Necklace #2 created from thick brass and soldered sterling silver bail ring. This pendant is 2 1/8″ long and hangs from a 30″ stainless steel ball chain. Strong and rugged this pendant is hand forged with my signature pattern and left untreated the brass will oxidize naturally over time. It can be kept shiny by a polishing cloth or a scrub with a toothbrush with baking soda and water. Once again there are slight variations in every pendant, but I strive for a continuity even while I hand work each of my designs. $100 is the price of the necklace with the edition of all 10 being donated 100% that means $1,000 to CHF for CHD research!!!

As I continue my journey of giving back with my heart and Heart Strength creations this month, I am reminded of how important love, family & friends are. I have come to understand that immense feeling of gratitute once again for this Little Lockwood Family. Take a moment to reach out to those who need support. Sometimes its just a hug, a note or any small commitment to help someone can go a long way.

Thank you again for making this amazing journey of creativity and giving back with my heart’s strength possible!FinnHunny2016FEb

Heart Strong & Paying it Forward

 Heart Strong Necklace

February is Heart Health month, specifically for my family it’s CHD or Congenital Heart Defect awareness month. 22 months ago our second Granchild was born, Finn Sawyer Lockwood. I was honored with being present for both Granboy’s births and for little Finn I arrived just in the nick of time to witness the beauty of his arrival.

At day 10 of his new little life Finn had an episode that would change the path of all of our family and one that no parent wants for their child. In an emergency situation Finn was transported and admitted to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit in Boston Children’s Hospital. His diagnosis was Ebstein’s Anomaly along with SVT which caused an abnormal heart rhythm. A truly frightening experience and one that would test the strength of this Little Lockwood Family for 10 days when Finn finally came home to his new reality, he had a congenital heart defect.

His first year was joyous and amazing, yet for his parents it was also full of the normal anxiety of dispensing medications to keep his heart beating at the correct rythym. Living a life focused on medications, heart monitors and echocardiograms on a regular basis was not easy for his parents, but they managed it with strength and Finn was a champ. He was able to be medication free after his first Birthday and to this day remains strong and steady in his growth! His words multiply daily and his spirit is that of any child his age, with an active family and older Brother.

The fact that he will someday have surgery, or several is his reality. This abnormality is not something a child outgrows, but the stronger he becomes and the older he gets puts his body in a better place to be able to have a good outcome. This tenacious little Finn the Fighter has a big spirit and a loving and amazing life ahead of him!

Feeling the love and watching the support during their time of need makes you realize how it truly does take a village to get through life’s difficulties. It also reminds you that giving back & supporting a cause close to your heart is an important part of paying it forward.

This February I have chosen to support the Children’s Heart Foundation in Finn’s honor and will donate 100% of the proceeds of the sale of a new heart pendant every Monday in the month of February. That’s 5 different hearts that I will make with my own hands, with the hopes that I will raise money to fund “…the most promising research for Congenital Heart Defects” and if there is anything that can help the children suffering it’s research!

The first Heart Strong #1 pendant is rugged and thick 2 1/4″ long and 3/4″ wide hand cut & hand forged oxidized sterling silver that represents the true spirit of my little Grandboy Finn the Fighter! It hangs on a 30″ long thick oxidized sterling silver snake chain and is selling for $150.

Remember this is for the children!! “Through mid 2015, The Children’s Heart Foundation has contributed an astounding $7.4 million toward 62 revolutionary congenital heart defect (CHD) research studies. As the country’s leading organization solely committed to CHD research funding, CHF dedicates itself to bringing health, hope and happiness to children and families impacted by a CHD.”

So here we go folks, contact me to purchase this necklace, my gift in Finn’s honor! Stay tuned for next week’s Heart Strong #2 creation and please remember the joy of giving is truly an honor. Pay if forward!!
